Pastor Cheri Taylor
Cheri Taylor and her husband Warren Taylor, served as joint pastors of the First Congregational Church in Porterville from 1989-2008. So far, they were the longest serving pastors in the history of the church. They were serving Joint UCC churches in Bloomington and Rialto California when they were called to this church.
Cheri received her BA in Sociology and Psychology with an emphasis in Gerontology at San Diego State University. She took Old Testament and Church growth classes at Fuller Theological School but graduated with her theological degree from Claremont School of Theology in Claremont.
She was born and raised in Riverside, California and grew up in the Wesley United Methodist Church. She has served as Children and Youth Director at Danville United Methodist Church, Brea United Methodist Church, and Porterville First Congregational Congregational Church.
In 1993, FCC and First Christian Church began a social daycare... a nonprofit for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia; and for elderly who could not stay home alone and their caregivers. She became their first Executive Director and retired in 2018.
Cheri's husband passed away from cancer in 2018. She received a call from FCC in 2021 saying that we needed a pastor. She is now the first solo woman pastor in the history of this church. She is so proud to serve our congregation and we are so fortunate to have her!
Office Staff
Julienne (Faure) Loflin is a third-generation member of our beautiful congregation. Her parents were married in this church, and they baptized and raised Julienne and her brothers here. Julienne and her husband were also married in this church and both her children were baptized here.
Upon her medical retirement from Porterville Developmental Center in 2012, where she was a Psychiatric Tech Assistant, Julienne took some time off to stay home and raise her children.
In 2017, we needed a new secretary and Julienne felt it was the perfect opportunity to give back to the church that has always been a large part of her family. She happily accepted the position, and we are happy to have her!
